| Moscow is one of the ancient and most beautiful metropolises in the world. It boasts a long and interesting history. The city has been completely destroyed and rebuilt anew many times throughout the centuries. Each time Moscow was resurrected from ashes, it became further and additional gorgeous. The most talented and famous architects were invited from around the world to restore Moscow. Thus, Moscow tourist attractions are truly well worth visiting. These days Moscow is the city where the past and the present exist side by side in mutual tolerance and respect. Near ancient monasteries and cathedrals, there tower above modern shopping centres and skyscrapers. But, first and foremost, Moscow is the very centre of Russia's history.
Red Square is the most renowned city square in Moscow and, probably, one of the most renowned in the world. It separates the Kremlin, the former royal fort and currently the official residence of the President of Russia, from a historic merchant part called Kitai-gorod. As the principal streets of Moscow run from here in every direction, Red Square is normally regarded as the central square of Moscow and of all Russia.
Resurrection Gate is the only existing gate of the Kitai-gorod in Moscow. It joins the north-western end of Red Square with Manege Square and gives its name to nearby Voskresenskaya Square (differently called Resurrection Square). In front of the chapel there is a bronze plaque marking kilometre zero of the Russian highway system.
Alexander Garden was one of Moscow's first public parks. It spans along the western Kremlin wall in front of the Moscow Manege.
The State Historical Museum of Russia is placed between Red Square and Manege Square. There are displays of remnants of the prehistoric people that live on the territory of present-day Russia as well as extremely valuable works of art obtained by the members of the Romanov family. The total number of objects in the museum's collection averages out at millions.
